Market Cap gains N33 billion in 5 days

The market capitalisation of entities on the main board closed higher last Friday at N12.100 trillion thus appreciating by N33 billion or 0.28 percent when compared with the preceding week’s closing figure of N12.067 trillion.
The NSE All-Share Index, ASI, also gained by 105.05 points or 0.28 percent to close last Friday at 37,870.87 basis points as against the 37,765.82 basis points closing figure of the previous week.
Information gathered from the Exchange indicated that all the indices appreciated last week except two.
The NSE 30, NSE Consumer Goods, NSE Insurance, NSE Oil/Gas and NSE Lotus II appreciated by 0.17%, 1.82%, 2.68%, 14.16% and 1.88% respectively.
However, NSE Banking and NSE Industrial Goods indices depreciated by 0.34% and 0.98% respectively while NSE-ASeM closed flat.
Thirty eight equities appreciated in prices during the week, the same as the preceding week while Forty three equities depreciated in prices lower than Forty four equities of the preceding week.
However, one hundred and sixteen equities remained unchanged higher than one hundred and fifteen equities of the preceding week.
A turnover of 1.834 billion shares worth N22.961 billion in 23,840 deals were traded last week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, in contrast to a total of 1.713 billion shares valued at N16.473 billion that exchanged hands the previous week in 22,925 deals.
The Financial Services Industry, (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.338 billion shares valued at N12.801 billion traded in 12,795 deals; thus contributing 72.93% and 55.75% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The Conglomerates Industry followed with a turnover of 313.368 million shares worth N820.513 million in 1,948 deals; contributing 17.08% and 3.57% to the total equity turnover volume and value
respectively.
The third place was occupied by the Consumer Goods Industry with 38.266 million shares worth N3.755 billion in 3,777 deals.
Trading in the top three equities namely; Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc, Wapic Insurance Plc and Zenith Bank Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 737.807 million shares worth N5.010 billion in 3,369 deals thus contributing 40.22% and 21.82% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
Also traded during the week were a total of 2,025 units of NewGold Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) valued at N4.096 million executed in 2 deals compared with a total of 1,594 units valued at N3,866 million transacted a week earlier in 6 deals.
Similarly, 723 units of FGN bonds valued at N749,976.07 were last week traded in 3 deals compared with a total of 515 units valued at N588, 502.89 transacted the previous week in 6 deals.
A report on the over-the-counter, (OTC) market for FGN Bonds indicated that a turnover of 193.766 million units valued at N210.137 billion in 1,053 deals were recorded last week in contrast to 141.149 million units valued at N150.882 billion in 751 deals recorded in the preceding week ended November 1, 2013.
Forte Oil Plc led the top ten gainers chart for last week with a gain of N33.87k in its share price to close at N104.90k per share.
Transcorp was second gaining N0.39k in its share price to close at N2.26k per share while Eterna Plc in third spot added N0.45k to its share price to close at N2.95k per share.
Mansard Insurance Plc was fourth with a share price gain of N0.25k to close at N2.27k per share.
Conoil Plc occupied the fifth spot with a gain of N4.78k in its share price to close at N51.48k per share.
Other companies on the chart are MRS, Nestle, Cutix Plc, Cadbury and Learn Africa Plc.
However, the top ten price losers chart for last week was led by International Energy Insurance Company Plc with a loss of N0.10k in its share price to close at N0.57k per share.
It was followed by UTC Nig. Plc which shed N0.07k in its share price to close at N0.60k per share while Costain(WA)Plc was third losing N0.10k in its share price to close at N0.96k per share.
Wema Bank was fourth with a loss of N0.12k in its share price to close at N1.18k per share.
Portland Paints which was fifth lost N0.38k in its share price to close at N4.62k per share.
Paints and Coatings Manufacturers Plc, Ekocorp Plc, A.G. Leventis Plc, Courteville Business Solutions Plc and Fidson Healthcare Plc are other companies on the chart.
